GIVEITBACK Graveyard Installation nears completion

02/05/2024

We are blown away by the amazing work done by the city council’s Print and Sign team on our life-sized graveyard installation of lost services in the city. We’ll be launching the installation and local campaign at UNISON’s national conferences at the Brighton Centre in June, and then touring it around the city to raise awareness of what has been lost from local jobs, services and resources because of government cuts over the last 13 years - and - most importantly - how we turn that sorrow into services and grief into action! Watch this space and do follow the GIVEITBACKBRIGHTONANDHOVE group on Facebook.

Local Government ISN’T BORING!

SIGN THE PETITION

#GIVEITBACK Brighton & Hove marks an unprecedented act of solidarity, as for the first time in the city, local unions and the employer – comprising both the Green and Labour Group of Councillors – have come together to speak in one voice to demand a reversal of cuts to local services and local government worker pay.

Brighton & Hove UNISON’s campaign; which is also supported by other local unions including the NEU and GMB Sussex, local MPs and dozens of local businesses, organisations and charities; is a response to the worsening funding crisis faced by the city council.  A crisis which could soon see the authority being forced to choose between jobs or services, just as city residents are forced to choose between heating and eating.

We are joining our voices to say we are clear that this crisis is the result of over a decade of chronic underfunding and lack of investment from central government; underfunding that is set to continue following the autumn budget statement. We join our voices to demand that the millions that have been stolen from our local government budget are returned so that we can have the excellent services everyone deserves and have residents and workers who can thrive, not just survive. Ordinary people and public services must not pay again for the mistakes of government, big business and investors.
