UNISON Rep Raises Money For Brain Tumour Charity In Daughter’s Honour

UNISON rep Alex Eades has been raising money for the charity, Charlotte’s BAG, which supports research into brain tumours. The charity was set up in honour of Charlotte Eades, Alex’s daughter, who died of a brain tumour in 2016, aged 19.

Charlotte was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in July 2013, and began uploading videos to the internet, documenting her experiences as a way to reach out to other cancer patients. She would openly discuss her treatments, symptoms and side effects to spread awareness and start discussions about cancer.

Charlotte’s mother, Alex, and brother, Miles, started the charity to support brain tumour developments at King’s College Hospital, London. King’s is one of the leading surgical centres in the UK and provides services for paediatric patients as well as teenagers and adults.

To raise funds this year, Alex and Miles are walking from Eastbourne to Winchester and back again in 12 days, just over 200 miles in total. The charity does not pay salaries, advertise, or sell merchandise, funding overheads personally, so all donations go towards research.

Alex is a dedicated rep for UNISON, and the branch would encourage members to donate to Charlotte’s BAG to support their fundraising efforts: go to www.charlottesbag.org/donate/
