Statement on Aileen McColgan KC Interim Report into Bullying & Harassment at Cityclean, Brighton & Hove UNISON

The headline findings in the summary independent barrister led report into behaviours and culture at Hollingdean Depot are shocking.

Brighton and Hove UNISON is committed to a fair and inclusive council that stands up to bullying and intimidation wherever it comes from.  This is why we have been working with the council on a comprehensive new bullying and harassment policy and lobbying for the organisation to adopt a confidential disclosure tool, which we are pleased to hear is currently being actioned.

Aileen McColgan KC’s Interim Report is deeply concerning and distressing.  Behind the words are real people who have experienced years of abuse, bullying, harassment, victimisation and threats. We are encouraged to hear that the full McColgan report will be published by the end of the month and will do all we can as one of the council’s recognised Trade Unions to ensure its recommendations are speedily worked through.  We must ensure that those who have suffered are protected in the future and that  all workers at the depot can go to work in a safe and healthy environment and be able to report discrimination, bullying or harassment without fear of detriment or retaliation.

UNISON will continue to provide advocacy and representation for our members. Now is the time to join a modern progressive union Join UNISON and get essential cover
